Books on Doors

It’s book week! Hurray. This is amazing. Actually it’s next week, so can’t get excited yet.

We’ve checked every door in our fabulous school and had to get a favourite. It’s a close call so here it is. 3rd place, Guess the baby! 2nd place, Bully on the bus. First place, the one and only, The BFG! imageWell, the criteria is: you had to like the book, know what book it is, be creative, be unexpected and the kids had to have something about them.

This door had people’s writing in the jars the BFG uses. It’s creative cause they’ve made the BFG body with what he eats and drinks and a pen in his hand. It was really unexpected because as you can see its huge for children to do.

I like this book cause the person is creative with where the Giants come from and how they talk. Also what they eat, drink and how they’re different.

If you want this class’s blog here it is.

Living skulls!

Skulduggery Pleasant is a book. I’m reading one. Literally. I’m reading the first book. It’s about a girl named Stephanie. She gets attacked and gets saved by Skulduggery, who kept an eye on her since her uncle died. She calls herself Valkyrie Cain and goes to save Skulduggery after him being captured by serpine’s minions, the hollow men.

Serpine is an evil man that killed skulduggery when he was a man. Then he tries to kill him as a skull. The Elders are the most magic men and women in the magical world. The sent cleavers to help get skulduggery back. Cleavers are super warriors. They’re really strong, fast and strategic.

Arthur Phillip, The Biography

Arthur Phillip was a commander on the first fleet. He sailed 11 ships to Botany Bay to make a colony in Australia. People said he had salt water in his veins from the day he was born.

Arthur Phillips death was bad for the colony. He had lots to do for he was the first governor of Australia. He was thought to have committed suicide. He got a grave, but his remains were lost while being buried.

Before being the governor, he was the commander of the first fleet. He was told to take 11 ships to Botany Bay. There he was elected to be the governor to help the convicts make a big country. Before anything, he was supposed to spy on France. He looked at all build ups. Normal, military, and the sea build ups.

Arthur was very young when his father died. It was 1739 when it happened. Arthur Phillip found out and went to live at an orphanage. He started sailing at age 12. As he grew up, his skill escalated.

Arthur also had two wives. Margaret Charlotte Denison was his first. She was a women of means. She was born in 1722. Her death was in 1792 at Bala, Gwynedd, U.K. She was 70.

Next arthur married Isabella Whitehead. She’s over ten years his junior. This women was born in 1873. She was listed as head of household in 1881.

Arthur Phillip died back at England. When they got to Botany Bay and set up camp, they found aboriginals. The aboriginal tribe helped to make their houses, but they weren’t treated with fairness, so they attacked the now bigger colony. Phillip decided that the tribe should be left alone. The colony finally found peace on Australia!

Captain…………… Arthur Phillip

Hi guys,

Soon we will be a character from when people started coming to Australia. I have chosen to be Arthur Phillip! He was an explorer in the first trip to Australia. He lived in London. Here’s more info:

Captain Phillip was a British naval officer who founded the first permanent European settlement I Australia (life: 11 October 1738-1814 31 August). Arthur commanded the “Sirius” the flagship of the first fleet (the eleven ships that carried the first European settlers from Portsmouth, England, to New South Wales, Australia). The First Fleet was commissioned by Thomas Townsend, Viscount Sydney, and sailed Botany Bay on May 13, 1787. Phillip was a far-sighted governor who soon saw that New South Wales would need a civil administration and a system for emancipating the convicts. But his plan to bring skilled tradesmen on the voyage had been rejected, and he faced immense problems of labour, discipline and supply. Also his friendly attitude towards the aborigines was sorely tested when they killed his gamekeeper, and he was not able to assert a clear policy about them. Tell? That’s silly!

Show, don’t tell? What’s that? Well, usually authors tell you exactly what som thing is. Show, don’t tell is describing it instead. So say an author said the room was messy. This is the show. imageThis does not look too hard, but you have to describe every little thing. Another one is this: the secret garden:imageSo now you should know what it is and what someone else has done.

Paper and air

🎶There’s paper in the air!🎶 We have been learning about paper planes. Their angles, how long they stay in the air, how to make them, we made hypothesis and what the world record plane is. This started with one question. What is the optimal design for a paper plane. The person that made the world record paper plane is John m. collins.

Picky tricky persuasive

Persuasive wrtiting is meant to persuade. It’s worse than a narrative (story) but a narrative can’t get you a job. There are different steps to finishing a persuasive. First a plan.Once you have done your plan you go onto your drafted introduction. Your intro brings readers in and tells them your topic.
When you’ve finished you go on. This next step is the argument and examples.  The next step is the other two arguments and examples.imageYou then edit it. Once done, you do a good copy and send as a letter or publish it. In the picture(⬆️) you should see that I’ve used different strategies. I’ve used rhetorical questions, statistics and expert opinion.

Easter buddys

On Wednesday the 23rd of March, my buddy (Will) and I had Easter activity. We made these split pin bunnys.↙️

imageWe cut out five different pieces to make them. Then we collected some split pins. We stunk the split pins the the pieces and pulled I to split. That didn’t work that well. Here is a video.↙️

A message for life

I read about Brent on the cp Australia website. He’s twenty five years old with cerebral palsy.

If I could talk to him I think his life message would be: Get an inspiration and never let it go. It means that you should always find an inspiration. Never let anyone hold you back. I had to infer.

My evidence is highlighted on the story below.

Here is where I got this story from.

Running for fun

New maths goal

imageI will start learning my 6x tables by the eighteenth of November. I will do this new goal by practicing on hit the button and at home with my Mum and Dad. I will know I have done this by attempting my sixes.

Out of my mind quotes

Quotes! I choose this one!

“Music is powerful my young friends,” she said. “It can connect us to memories. It can influence our mood and our responses to problems we might face.”

I think that this means when you do your favourite thing, it makes you feel better after a problem or got hurt.

Maths goal

I am going to practice my 4 x tables by Wednesday 28th October.

I will do this by using hit the button and times tables me.

My evidence for achieving this will be the photo I take after working with Anke on 28th.

Day and Night

imageimageIn the first image you can see I put in the moon, said the earth spins (but not around the sun), the earth is in the middle, and it rotates slowly anticlockwise.

In the second image I said the sun was in the middle, the spins around the sun will slowly rotating itself anticlockwise.

How does day and night happen you ask. Well, part of the earth faces the sun. That makes day. The other part isn’t, that is night.

Have a look at this website.
