Lava and plastic, they don’t mix. Lava melts plastic. Well, how did they make lava lamps. They should of used plastic before putting it in mettle after(which still melts). You know, I found out how they’ve done it. It’s not real lava!
Edward craven walker made the lava lamps out of something else. Water oil and tablets. Oh, you’ll also need food colouring. Back than they didn’t call them lava lamps though. They called them Astro Lamps. He died when he was at war with cancer in the 1990’s.
Wanna know how to make one? Here it is: 1. Fill 1/4 of a plastic bottle with water. 2. Add a few drops of food colouring of your choice. 3. Tilt the bottle to the side and pour in some corn oil. 4. Set the bottle upright and let it set for 10 to 15 minutes. 5. Add two alka-seltzer tablets and you’ll have a fabulous, amazing, astonishing, stunning…….. LAVA LAMP.
This is hard, but not the hardest. We had to make a poster. This one is mine. I’m sure it’s an A3 page.
We needed all the info so this is the website I used. This website gave me heaps of information that I needed to use.
On the day I had to stand for two hours. 48 or 49 people came to my table and all of them said mine was interesting loved it. This is the explanation:
If your scared, don’t worry. It’s not real lava. Its chemicals trying to mix. It makes bubbles float up making the effect of lava. The water has a higher density (the degree of compactness of a substance) then the oil, so as the water sinks, the oil sits on top. Cause of their densities, they’ll never mix.
The tablets will get stuck in the water and dissolve. This will generate carbon dioxide bubbles that float to the top. The food colouring makes everything visible to the eye. If we didn’t use food colouring, we wouldn’t see the bubbles float up so it will be a useless lava lamp.
Here is a video I used. img_2667. That’s the end of my speech. Good day.
T.O.M. Tournament of minds. 20th of August. Maths and engineering. Mr Bell, or teacher. Make a machine for the post. That’s none of the details. It’s just what we did. Here is the details.
Tournament of minds is a competition for schools to get different teams to compete. We were maths and engineering. We called ourselves……The innovation company. When I say we, I mean: Scott, Luke, Angus, Connor, Zac and myself of course. Mr Bell helped us through out the whole thing, well, except the spontaneous task. Yes, another competition for the competition.
The spontaneous challenge was short term. You had a picture, in this case a face on stairs, and had to write down what it could also be, or this what it could lead to, with your team.
The long term challenge was make a machine for the post. BUT…… it had to measure golden ratios. Ours was the golden post 2000! We measure the papers, if it isn’t right it goes in a “stabilised black hole”, if it’s ok it gets to the “universe”.
It’s book week! Hurray. This is amazing. Actually it’s next week, so can’t get excited yet.
We’ve checked every door in our fabulous school and had to get a favourite. It’s a close call so here it is. 3rd place, Guess the baby! 2nd place, Bully on the bus. First place, the one and only, The BFG! Well, the criteria is: you had to like the book, know what book it is, be creative, be unexpected and the kids had to have something about them.
This door had people’s writing in the jars the BFG uses. It’s creative cause they’ve made the BFG body with what he eats and drinks and a pen in his hand. It was really unexpected because as you can see its huge for children to do.
I like this book cause the person is creative with where the Giants come from and how they talk. Also what they eat, drink and how they’re different.
If you want this class’s blog here it is.
Skulduggery Pleasant is a book. I’m reading one. Literally. I’m reading the first book. It’s about a girl named Stephanie. She gets attacked and gets saved by Skulduggery, who kept an eye on her since her uncle died. She calls herself Valkyrie Cain and goes to save Skulduggery after him being captured by serpine’s minions, the hollow men.
Serpine is an evil man that killed skulduggery when he was a man. Then he tries to kill him as a skull. The Elders are the most magic men and women in the magical world. The sent cleavers to help get skulduggery back. Cleavers are super warriors. They’re really strong, fast and strategic.
What’s Sci-Fi? Sci-Fi is Science Fiction! Science Fiction is a story that might have some future science in it. We call it Sci-Fi. I’m writing one this week.
Mine is about a human (Jaydon Bisok) who is tested on for something new. He gets lion cells in him so he turns into a human lion.
He gets hunted down by a robot army called Robo Soldiers. One Robo soldier (LK965) gets shot down while helping Jaydon. Jaydons being tracked and has to rebuild Luke (LK965).
Will Jaydon help Luke without being tracked! Find out in the actual story.
Arthur Phillip was a commander on the first fleet. He sailed 11 ships to Botany Bay to make a colony in Australia. People said he had salt water in his veins from the day he was born.
Arthur Phillips death was bad for the colony. He had lots to do for he was the first governor of Australia. He was thought to have committed suicide. He got a grave, but his remains were lost while being buried.
Before being the governor, he was the commander of the first fleet. He was told to take 11 ships to Botany Bay. There he was elected to be the governor to help the convicts make a big country. Before anything, he was supposed to spy on France. He looked at all build ups. Normal, military, and the sea build ups.
Arthur was very young when his father died. It was 1739 when it happened. Arthur Phillip found out and went to live at an orphanage. He started sailing at age 12. As he grew up, his skill escalated.
Arthur also had two wives. Margaret Charlotte Denison was his first. She was a women of means. She was born in 1722. Her death was in 1792 at Bala, Gwynedd, U.K. She was 70.
Next arthur married Isabella Whitehead. She’s over ten years his junior. This women was born in 1873. She was listed as head of household in 1881.
Arthur Phillip died back at England. When they got to Botany Bay and set up camp, they found aboriginals. The aboriginal tribe helped to make their houses, but they weren’t treated with fairness, so they attacked the now bigger colony. Phillip decided that the tribe should be left alone. The colony finally found peace on Australia!
Show, don’t tell? What’s that? Well, usually authors tell you exactly what som thing is. Show, don’t tell is describing it instead. So say an author said the room was messy. This is the show. This does not look too hard, but you have to describe every little thing. Another one is this: the secret garden:So now you should know what it is and what someone else has done.
🎶There’s paper in the air!🎶 We have been learning about paper planes. Their angles, how long they stay in the air, how to make them, we made hypothesis and what the world record plane is. This started with one question. What is the optimal design for a paper plane. The person that made the world record paper plane is John m. collins.
Persuasive wrtiting is meant to persuade. It’s worse than a narrative (story) but a narrative can’t get you a job. There are different steps to finishing a persuasive. First a plan.Once you have done your plan you go onto your drafted introduction. Your intro brings readers in and tells them your topic.
When you’ve finished you go on. This next step is the argument and examples. The next step is the other two arguments and examples. You then edit it. Once done, you do a good copy and send as a letter or publish it. In the picture(⬆️) you should see that I’ve used different strategies. I’ve used rhetorical questions, statistics and expert opinion.
On Wednesday the 23rd of March, my buddy (Will) and I had Easter activity. We made these split pin bunnys.↙️
We cut out five different pieces to make them. Then we collected some split pins. We stunk the split pins the the pieces and pulled I to split. That didn’t work that well. Here is a video.↙️
I read about Brent on the cp Australia website. He’s twenty five years old with cerebral palsy.
If I could talk to him I think his life message would be: Get an inspiration and never let it go. It means that you should always find an inspiration. Never let anyone hold you back. I had to infer.
My evidence is highlighted on the story below.
Here is where I got this story from.
In October there was a walking competition. My school joined and I did 36 walks. The pictures up the top is my certificate and the days I walked.
I will start learning my 6x tables by the eighteenth of November. I will do this new goal by practicing on hit the button and at home with my Mum and Dad. I will know I have done this by attempting my sixes.
Quotes! I choose this one!
“Music is powerful my young friends,” she said. “It can connect us to memories. It can influence our mood and our responses to problems we might face.”
I think that this means when you do your favourite thing, it makes you feel better after a problem or got hurt.
I am going to practice my 4 x tables by Wednesday 28th October.
I will do this by using hit the button and times tables me.
My evidence for achieving this will be the photo I take after working with Anke on 28th.
On Tuesday, someone from the little devils circus came and taught us some tricks. The tricks were juggling, devil sticks and some rope things. My favourite was the rope things. These are some pictures of the tricks.
